Geography
At Falkland, it is important to use that we
- Equip children with the necessary knowledge, skills and confidence to be successful geographers.
- Stimulate children’s interest and curiosity about their surroundings and develop a knowledge and understanding of the physical and human processes which shape places.
- Expose children to and foster their knowledge of other cultures and, in doing so, teach a respect and understanding of what it means to be a positive citizen in a multi-cultural country.
- Provide learning opportunities that enthuse, engage and motivate children to learn and foster a sense of curiosity and wonder at the beauty of the world around them.
- Allow children to understand the difference they and others make on the world and environment and understand what they can do to help.
- Develop the geographical skills, including how to use, draw and interpret maps of different scales and the vocabulary necessary to carry out effective geographical enquiry.
- Enable children to work geographically in a range of appropriate contexts, using a variety of materials and equipment including other people’s experiences and knowledge.
- Provide opportunities for practical fieldwork and observation of physical and human processes through workshops, school trips and explorative lessons.
Through our robust Geography curriculum, our ultimate aim for our pupils to leave our school with their interest sparked in the world around them, equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in studying Geography in secondary school and beyond.
