Phonics: We are readers and writers
We are learning. We are growing. We are Falkland.
At Falkland we are passionate about ensuring all children become confident and enthusiastic readers and writers. It is our belief that phonics provides the foundational learning to simplify the development path to fluent reading and writing easier. Through the use of phonics, children learn to segment words to support their spelling ability and blend sounds to read words. We use the Monster Phonics (Department of Education approved) systematic synthetic phonics scheme. It teaches phonics with a comprehensive structured progression but provides additional multi-sensory support to make learning more memorable and engaging. Synthetic phonics is the first formal method for the teaching of reading and writing that we employ as it instils the building blocks required to become fluent readers and confident writers.
