We are Historians

We are learning. We are growing. We are Falkland.

At Falkland Primary School, we believe that a high quality history education will help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world in a way that inspires them to become curious about the past and able to consider how it has affected the present day. In order to achieve this, we aim to teach them knowledge of a range of historical time periods; both in Britain and across the world. We are aware of the rich local history that surrounds us - Bronze Age burial moulds, Civil war battle fields and links to Highclere castle and use this to inspire our pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past.

Our teaching will seek to equip pupils to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments and develop a sense of perspective and judgement. History helps pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the changes of their time. History will be taught through enquiry, use of resources, artefacts and images to support investigation.
