We are Linguists (French) and Cultural Explorers
We are learning. We are growing. We are Falkland.
At Falkland Primary School, we believe that learning a foreign language is an opening to other cultures which fosters pupils’ curiosity and helps deepen their understanding of the multi-cultural world we live in. We have chosen to deliver our French learning with the support of the ‘Language Angels’ scheme of work. This offers the children a high quality, challenging curriculum based on the four key areas: speaking, listening, reading and writing, which we believe will inspire and excite our pupils through a wide variety of topics whilst meeting the National Curriculum requirements. Our intention at Falkland is that by Year 6, children will be confident to hold a short conversation in French and read and write simple sentences and short paragraphs.
As you can see in our Curriculum overview document, we introduce simple songs and greetings as early as EYFS and Year 1, even though MFL is not compulsory until Year 3. We feel this solid foundation will better equip our pupils to access French at secondary school and beyond. More detail of how children progress, can be seen in our Progression of skills in French document.
